The Oxford Catty Shack was formed in July 2023 when the founder was asked to trap stray cats for a one-day spay/neuter clinic being offered by a local veterinary clinic. During that day of trapping, it became clear that a massive stray/feral cat problem existed in Oxford, Ohio.
The organization became an official 501(c)(3) nonprofit business on September 12, 2023 and designed a guiding process known as the 5 Rs, to reduce the feral/stray cat population and minimize or prevent the suffering of homeless cats within the city and township of Oxford, Ohio.
RESCUE | When we are able, we seek to remove animals who are actively suffering or in danger from the situations they are in. |
REHABILITATION | Many of the cats who come into our care are sick, injured, malnourished, or too young for spay/neuter surgery or rehoming. For these animals, we seek to obtain appropriate veterinary care and provide medication and compassionate care in a safe and clean environment. Cats and kittens stay with us until they are well enough for sterilization surgery or adoption. |
REHOMING | Cats who are friendly, healthy, up to date on veterinary care, and at least ten weeks of age are listed for adoption. We carefully screen applicants to ensure high quality homes. |
RELEASE | Colony and feral cats are humanely trapped, vaccinated, treated for parasites, spayed/neutered, ear-tipped and returned to their colony. |
REMAIN | We seek to maintain a presence in the colonies we have served by coordinating with colony managers to provide food, water, shelter and updates of any new cats/kittens that come into the colony. |
